The entire Phocea team wishes you a very happy new year. This beginning of year has been quite busy, we have moved into the new dive centre and set up the organization of the centre in order to give you as much satisfaction as possible.
But, there has also been the 13th Paris Dive Showroom (Porte de Versailles) and we want to thank those who could come to say hi and we are pretty happy with the affluence, many of you were there.
This showroom has been a real success and it forecasts a good 2011 year. |

As each year, this is a privilege to be there as it allows us to see you again somewhere else than at Phocea and to share the memories of the dives we have done together.
A quick word to thank Sarah and Guitou for their presence with us at the showroom and especially for their very good mood.
We have just received the prize of the « 2010 America’s best business », this prize has been granted by PADI in order to reward the dive centre that showed the best quality of service for the customers.
We are very proud of this prize and that encourages us to go on working on it.
As for every new year, we are having good resolutions :
- We have changed the whole rental equipment in order to offer you the best quality
- We are going to offer a new youth to the Sin Limite changing its engines
- We have at your disposal 100% of the Aqualung product range, at very interesting prices
- We are now offering upon demand the « Sailfish Operation » where you will be able to swim with the fastest fish in the world : the Blue Marlin
- And, we still have many more innovations that we will present you along the year.

| The new IDC has actually arrived in French and in Spanish |

Yes, for those of you who are thinking about participating to the IDC in January 2011, you will now have access to a brand new program in your language.
Although it has been set up in November 2009, the new IDC was just available to the ones who know and love Shakespeare’s mother tongue. Since the beginning of the year, for the French and Spanish speaking people, the new program is now available. So do not hesitate anymore… !!! |
The new IDC in a few words :
- even if it has been optimized to be done with the E-learning, this functionality will not be available for the French and Spanish speaking people before a few months… So, the online presentations are made in the classroom by your Course Director.
- New working tools : the PADI Teaching guide that allows you as a future instructor to have a concise document with the whole necessary information to be able to teach all the programs. The new Instructor manual entirely updated and reorganized for an optimized and easier use. Finally, new presentations with a modified content, more adapted to the new pedagogical techniques.
- A new format : indeed, this new IDC has been thought to be more interactive, and it will make you participate to more workshops in order to prepare you better to your next professional life.
Although it has been designed to be shorter, we have decided to keep the same planning as for the « old » version : 11 days of IDC course and 2 further days if you wish to participate to the EFRI course.
Obviously, to perfect your professional training, the MSDT Prep course is still strongly suggested to allow you to teach specialities such as Nitrox, Deep dive, Wreck dive...

| 2011 Innovation for Phocea’s professional courses |
Starting in January, Phocea will schedule during the IDC/MSDT courses a training course regarding the maintenance and repair of Aqualung equipment. On a full day, you will participate to a presentation of the complete Aqualung regulators product range and to a workshop regarding maintenance and repair on Calypso and Legend regulators.
This workshop is performed by an Aqualung technical training manager and you will be granted at the end of the course a diploma of Aqualung counsel technician. |

On this new year beginning, you must have taken resolutions that, as any resolution may be quite quickly forgotten.
So, I have decided to impose myself this year accessible resolutions in order to be glad to respect them, and as we (you and I) are divers, I have thought to a list of easy resolutions to respect in technical diving, that will turn you into better divers.

This year, I will better check my equipment
Most of the problems that occur during technical dives, for deep dives or underground dives, come from the lack of rigour when checking the equipment.
- Rather than just verify that your back up lights are working at surface, what about deciding to change your batteries regularly after any use for exemple.
- You may also lubricate for example your cutting devices in order to make sure to be able to use it when needed instead of having rusty stuff in the sleeve.
- You may also just make a « check list » of all that you have to verify before one of these dives…. And use it anytime you dive.
- You may also decide to have your regulators serviced regularly, not just when they sound weird to you…
This year, I will improve my buoyancy
The buoyancy is a frustrating concept as even the best diver in the world will never master it at 100%. It has on the contrary the huge advantage to always be a matter of improve, and the keystone of technical diving.
- You may decide not to be a « lazy » diver anymore forcing yourself not to touch anything, or at least try. To succeed in that, you can replace any movement of your hands by the adequate action using, for example as your only tools the lungs, the BCD and the fins : instead of laying on the bottom putting a finger, just inhale a little longer…
- You may also get trained to make a proper ascent in positive buoyancy just using the BCD as a tool, this will allow you for example to master better the ascent rates and profiles (essential for Trimix divers for example).
This year I will keep on working on my technical education
Since the beginning of my diving career, I have always needed an evolution plan to improve my technical and theoretical abilities so that I chose as a purpose to participate to at least one course or training by year.
- You already are an air diver : what about having a further step towards trimix and discovering new feelings while underwater ?
- You have loved to stroll in a cristal clear cave, but you were more than tempted to go a little farther… Just participate to an underground diving course and you will discover this way a full bunch of technical aspects that will turn you into a better diver in any environment.
- And, if you already are an experienced cave diver, what about participating to a side-mount (« English way of diving ») training course, to gain access to underground spaces until then unaccessible.
As scuba diving is a discipline that offers many different aspects, this list is obviously not exhaustive, but it may allow you to take underwater resolutions that will be in adequacy with your expectation regarding progress.
